Bronwydd welcomed Pontardawe to Cnwc-y-Deri for the first game between the two sides, and under bright blue skies, the home skipper made it a hat-trick this year by again loosing the toss, giving his batsmen first use of a pitch that was still a little damp from the recent wet spell of weather. Phillip Howell playing his first game of this campaign looked in fine form as he and Byron Jones put on 41 for the first wicket before Byron went for 28. Steff Jones then came in and shared a partnership of 96 before Bronwydd lost their second wicket when Phillip Howell was caught and bowled for a fine 53. Iwan Davies then joined Steff Jones at the crease and the pair put on 47 at almost a run a ball. Steff Jones was unlucky not to reach 3 figures when he was also caught and bowled for 86 with the score on 186. The remaining batsmen secured Bronwydd 5 batting points as the innings closed on 234 for 6.
The Pontardawe reply got off to a poor start as they found themselves 12 for 3 as Zaheed Anwar and Garmon Dyfri both making their first team debut took early wickets to set the tone of the innings, as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals and only a ninth wicket stand of 39 gave the innings any respectability. With Steve Williams finishing the innings off with 4 for 27, the home team had victory by 143 runs. Skipper Morgan thanked his players for their performance against a team that were in the first division last year and picked out 13 year old Garmon Dyfri who finished with figures of 5-1-6-2.
The game was sponsored by Mr Elwyn Griffiths
Bronwydd seconds travelled to Pontardawe Park with a team including only 4 players over 20 and were met with a home team that included a couple of first team regulars. Andrew Wilson won the toss and asked the home team to bat first knowing his young team would have to play well to restrict the Pontardawe team. The Bronwydd bowling was wayward at times with only youngsters Tomos Jones and Gethin Francis showed any control as the home team finished on 273 for 5.
The Bronwydd reply had to have a good start but they soon lost Carwyn Morgan who was run out for 2 and after that Steve Phillips 32, Gareth John 27, Tomos Jones18 and Noah Mistry16 showed any resistance and the the innings finished on a disappointing 150 all out
The 2013 National Village Cup, which gives all village teams a chance to play the final at the home of cricket - Lords Cricket Ground, got under way on Sunday. With only 7 teams in the Dyfed group it was likely that Bronwydd would have to play Carew at some stage. The two teams met at Cnwc y Deri on a bright Sunday afternoon with a large and enthusiastic crowd settling in for a game of cricket between two teams who have met in this competition many times in the past.
Skipper Kevin Morgan again lost the toss and Byron Jones and Dorian Jones took guard with the task of setting up a sizable target. The pair put on 30 runs before Byron fell to a fine catch in the gully by Tim Hicks for 15 but then Steff Jones joined Dorian and continued his good form scoring 38 and at the half way stage Bronwydd were 88 for 2. Richard Taylor was not as quick as the fielders arm and was run out for only 4 but this brought Iwan Davies to the crease and the innings continued at nearly 5 runs per over. Dorian Jones (41) Iwan Davies (38) and John Thorley (22) pushed the score at the end of the 40 overs to 198 for 7.
The Carew reply was not quite up to the required run rate but Brian Hall (25) and Nick Scourfield (39) kept the scoreboard moving but once these two had gone with the score on 92, 25 overs had already gone and the required run rate was climbing. Wickets then fell at regular intervals and with Gihan Fernando 2 for 31 and Steve Williams 4 for 24, the visitors final total fell short by 61 runs.
The game was sponsored by Nantgaredig Rugby Club

Cricket explained:-
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in goes out and when he's out, he comes in UKand the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
When both sides have been in and out, including the not outs --- that's the end of the game
